RHYTHMS OF THE WORLD, RHYTHMS OF OUR LIVES The show consists of two main parts. The first part, Aux rythmes du monde (Rhythms of the world), is a mosaic representing a variety of rich and different cultures. To accomplish this, the troupe's dancers learned a dozen choreographies from various cultures (Maritime Provinces, Ireland, Italy, Serbia, South Africa, Israel, Hungary, gypsy). This was due to the high demand following the North American tour. Isabelle Laurin, Artistic Director, collaborated with two other choreographers, Rhéal Poirier (Acadian step-dance) and Ginette LeBlanc (Gumboot dance), who spent many hours working with the dancers to teach them the new repertory. |
The second part, Aux rythmes de nos vies (Rhythms of our lives), tells the legend of the chasse-galerie, the story of a flying birchbark canoe. This legend has travelled from East to West, passed on by Francophones throughout the country. This part, for which stage design was very important, took us way back in the French-Canadian past. To create it, the dancers needed to focus more on their acting in order to make, through dance, the various characters' personalities stand out. Also, we were once again lucky enough to work with Daniel Gervais, the wonderful young violinist who accepted to direct the musical component of this second part. He was accompanied on stage by Clinton Pelletier, Curtis Ebner and Gord Oaks. |
